Canine Education Classes
Let the Toledo Area Humane Society help make your furry friend the perfect home companion with one of our positive reinforcement Dog Training Classes!
For Registration to any of our classes, please call 419-891-0705! Course Descriptions Introduction to Dog Training
Come get to know our trainer and learn some dog training basics. Topics covered in class: * Being a good leader
* How dogs learn * Teaching behaviors in general
* Attention Exercises
* Name Recognition
* Answers to your training questions Introduction to Dog Training is held every Thursday at 6pm. No registration required, just drop in! First come, first served. Maximum of seven dogs!
Class length: 1 hour
Cost: $10.00
First Time Pet Owner This is a class for first time pet owners that teaches the essentials of caring for a pet. Topics covered in class:
* Estimated annual costs for care * Healthy Diet * Pet Safety and Shelter * Vet Care/Grooming * Exercise/Mental Health * Training Pets do not attend this class. Maximum of 20 participants per class. Class length: 1 hour

Puppy Socialization
This class focuses on how to properly socialize your puppy!
Topics covered in class: * Puppy play sessions * Socialization * Potty Training * Crate Training * Play Biting * Acceptance of being handled for grooming and vet exams For puppies 7 - 16 weeks old
Must be healthy and current on their vaccinations
Maximum of 7 participants per class Class length: 4 classes / 1-hour each / meets once a week.

Good Manners
This class will teach your dog how to become a well mannered companion. Learn such behaviors as:
* Sit
* Down
* Come
* Heel
* Door Etiquette
* Stay
* Leave It
* Drop It
* Polite Greetings
For dogs 20 weeks of age and older. Must be healthy and currenty on their vaccinations
Class length: 6 classes / 1-hour each / meets once a week
Cost: $90.00

Canine Good Citizen
Teach your dog good manners at home and in the community by learning:
* Accepting a friendly stranger
* Sitting politely for petting * Appearance and grooming
* Walking on a loose leash
* Walking through a crowd
* Sit and down and stay
* Coming when called
* Reaction to another dog
* Reaction to a distraction
* Supervised separation
Includes CGC testing and certification for passing students on the last day of class.
For dogs 6 months of age and older. Dog must pass the Good Manners class or pre-class assessment to attend. Maximum of 5 participants per class.
Class length: 7 classes / 1-hour each / meets once a week

Private Tutoring
Private lessons are available to those that prefer one-on-one attention or require a specialized behavior modification program.
Private class at the Toledo Area Humane Society:
Cost: $30.00 per hour
Package rate: $150.00 for 6 classes / 1-hour each
In home classes:
Cost: $40.00 per hour
Package rate: $200.00 for 6 classes / 1-hour each
